RM5,000 Raised Through the Campaign In Support of the Malaysian Nature Society’s Mangrove Reforestation Efforts

Botaneco Garden, hair and body care products exclusive to Guardian Health & Beauty, in collaboration with the Malaysian Nature Society, has added 200 trees to the Kuala Selangor Nature Park through the brand’s ‘Plant A Seed, Grow A Forest’ campaign.
The ‘Plant A Seed, Grow A Forest’ campaign saw one percent of all Botaneco Garden products sold throughout the month of June 2017, channelled to the Malaysian Nature Society’s mangrove reforestation efforts. The campaign raised RM5,000.
Botaneco Garden are made from an innovative and sophisticated blend of botanical ingredients and eco-certified oil. The brand includes various hair and body care ranges for adults, and a new range of Botaneco Garden baby products. It is available, nationwide, exclusively at Guardian, and at the Guardian e-store. There are more than 400 Guardian outlets nationwide.
Twenty Guardian Malaysia management and staff were hands-on in planting over 40 trees in the Kuala Selangor Nature Park to mark the success of the first Botaneco Garden ‘Plant A Seed, Grow A Forest’ campaign.
Staffs of the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) including Executive Director, I.S Mr Shanmugaraj Subramaniam were on hand to educate the Guardian team on the need for mangrove conservation, and to lend a hand with the tree-planting exercise.

MNS’ focus is to conserve Malaysia’s diverse habitats, protecting the nation’s natural heritage especially ecologically sensitive landscapes. Mangrove forests are classified as ecologically sensitive landscapes as they provide shelter and food for aquatic and marine animals, and migratory shorebirds, serve as a deterrent to storm surges, tides and currents, reduce water pollution and prevent soil erosion in coastal communities.
The Botaneco Garden collection consist of formulations free-from ingredients such as parabens, soap, colourants and silicone, giving consumers who are health-conscious and environmentally-friendly, peace of mind. Botaneco Garden products are also dermatologically tested and proven.
According to Corporate Brand Director, Guardian Health and Beauty Sdn Bhd, Alfonso Roderos, Botaneco Garden’s “Plant A Seed, Grow A Forest” campaign grew out of the brand’s eco-conscious philosophy, and the lifestyle and concerns of its consumers. It was held to celebrate World Environment Day 2017 and received strong support from its core consumers.
“Botaneco Garden has a strong user base of informed, eco-conscious consumers who prefer beauty solution enhanced with environmental friendly ingredients. The collection is a performance line that is affordably priced and has eco-certified oils. Botaneco Garden consumers supported the campaign, resulting in a collection of RM5,000 in one month. We are thankful to our consumers for their support for the Botaneco Garden brand, and for their commitment to the environment,” Alfonso Roderos explained.
He said that the brand had achieved its target to plant 200 mangrove trees from the funds raised.
For Guardian Malaysia’s Own Brand Product Manager, Ms Michelle Yeap, the visit to the Kuala Selangor Nature Park for the tree-planting exercise was an eye-opener on the importance and beauty of mangrove forests.
“Mangrove forests are so serene yet teeming with life. Planting these saplings was hard work, and all of us got muddy and dirty but it does give us a greater appreciation of how difficult it is for even one sapling to grow into a tree, and how delicate the forest eco-system is,” Ms Yeap said.
For Head of Skincare, Sheryn Soo, the tree-planting drove home the purpose of the campaign. “From a tiny seed, you can get a mighty forest, and this campaign proves the point us. As consumers, we need to make choices that are kinder to the environment, and better for our health as well. I’d recommend getting hands-on with nature to everyone, after this exercise,” said Sheryn Soo.
The Malaysian Nature Society’s Executive Director, I.S Mr Shanmugaraj Subramaniam said that the society appreciated the support of the public through the efforts of brands such as Botaneco Garden in replanting depleting mangrove forests in nature parks.
“Everyone can play their part, but first they need to know about the dangers of mangrove depletion. We are thankful to Botaneco Garden and to Guardian for the contribution of RM5,000, and for joining us to replant mangrove saplings at Kuala Selangor Nature Park. The Plant A Seed, Grow A Forest campaign has helped to create some awareness and it does provide a platform for the public to participate and contribute to conservation efforts.”
The Kuala Selangor Nature Park, is home to 150 species of birds, small animals, fish, amphibians, and reptiles such as Smooth Otters, Silvered Leaf-monkeys, Long-tailed Macaques and more. However, illegal mangrove extraction has put this habitat at risk, and reforestation is necessary.
